Overview
For over ten years, we at MEMCO by AVIRE, have partnered with Pickerings Lifts, one of the UK’s leading lift service providers, to deliver specialist lift safety and emergency communication systems.
Pickerings supplies, installs, modernises, refurbishes, services, and maintains a wide range of lifts, escalators, travelators, loading systems, and mobility equipment. We have supplied lift safety products and services to many of these projects, including the ongoing lift installation and maintenance project at Oxford Brookes University.
Oxford Brookes University, with a history dating back to 1865, has over 2,800 staff, around 18,000 students, and a global alumni network spanning 189 countries. The university has invested significantly in its estate, with a £220 million, ten-year investment plan underway. As part of this programme, Pickerings has been modernising and servicing lifts across the campus and installing two new lifts.

The Challenge
Oxford Brookes University required a comprehensive lift modernisation and maintenance programme to ensure its lifts met current safety and compliance standards. The existing systems had outdated safety features and lacked modern communication technology for effective emergency response.
The MEMCO by AVIRE Solution
Pickerings Lifts selected MEMCO by AVIRE’s solutions to address these challenges, integrating:
- Emergency Communication Systems – Including DCP, M2M SIM Cards, and Digital Autodiallers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and provide a reliable emergency response system.
- Remote Lift Monitoring via the AVIRE Hub – Enabling real-time performance tracking, predictive maintenance alerts, and reduced downtime.
- Enhanced Safety Features – Such as the Panachrome+ Controller, improving passenger protection and ensuring compliance with modern safety standards.
These solutions were implemented over 45 sites within the Oxford Brookes University campus.
