My name is Jeswin Jomon, and I am an Apprentice Engineer in Product Design & Development at AVIRE. My interest in engineering has developed through both my education and practical engineering projects. I completed a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering at UTC Reading, where I gained experience in product design, electronics, testing and engineering analysis. I then completed a Higher Education Certificate (CertHE), which further developed my understanding of engineering principles, problem-solving and the design process.
During my time at UTC Reading, I worked on a range of practical projects, including developing an Arduino-based lift control system, where I designed, programmed and tested a working system. I also gained experience in electronic circuit design and laboratory testing. These experiences strengthened my interest in product development, mechanical engineering and electronics, and provided a strong foundation as I began my engineering career.
I joined AVIRE in September 2026. The apprenticeship appealed to me because it gives me the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience while continuing my studies at university. I was particularly interested in working alongside an experienced engineering team and contributing to real product development. It also gives me the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge from my studies directly to engineering projects at AVIRE.
What excites me most about my role is being involved in the development of real products and seeing how engineering knowledge is applied in a real-world environment. I am looking forward to building my industry knowledge, contributing to different projects and developing my skills as an engineer. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to help develop safer, more reliable products that can make a positive difference to people’s everyday lives.
