MEMCO by AVIRE Shares Large-Scale Alarm Migration Insights at Lift Symposium 2025

⏱️ Calculating reading time…

MEMCO by AVIRE presented a major case study at the Lift & Escalator Symposium 2025, highlighting the successful migration of more than 1,100 lift alarm connections for Premier Inn from legacy PSTN lines to digital alternatives.

Delivered by Matthew Davies, Business Development Manager at MEMCO by AVIRE, the paper “Mass Migration of Lift Alarm Connections – A Case Study” explored the practical steps, challenges, and lessons learned in delivering a project of this scale across a geographically diverse portfolio spanning the UK, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, and Channel Islands. In addition to his presentation, Matt contributes to several UK and European working groups, sharing knowledge that helps shape future standards and best practice across the lift industry. This was his second time presenting at the Lift Symposium.

SENTINEL Supporting Migration and Monitoring

Central to the migration was SENTINEL, MEMCO by AVIRE’s cloud-based monitoring and management platform. The system provided visibility throughout the process, helped streamline the transition, and offered valuable insights into the performance of the alarm estate during and after migration.

The project demonstrates how digital solutions can help lift owners prepare for the UK’s PSTN switch-off, while also delivering long-term benefits in operational oversight and compliance.

Industry Discussions at the Symposium

In addition to MEMCO by AVIRE’s presentation, the Symposium programme covered subjects including rope wear, the effects of earthquakes on lift systems, and the growing role of IoT and AI in predictive monitoring. Sessions on traffic analysis and dispatching patterns also featured prominently.

The keynote address from Mike Burton of AECOM UK, “The Future Office”, offered perspectives on how changing building design is influencing lift and escalator requirements.

Looking Ahead

The Symposium provided a valuable forum for sharing technical knowledge and practical experience across the lift industry. MEMCO by AVIRE remains committed to supporting lift owners, consultants and contractors through complex transitions such as alarm migration, with SENTINEL continuing to play an important role in ensuring safety and reliability.
